Timeline:

1942 - Stan Lanford, Sr. purchases interest in R.B. Gay & Co.

1953 - Stan Lanford, Sr., Jack & Stan Jr. form Lanford & Slater.

1955 - Stan Lanford, Sr. dies in 1955 from cancer of the stomach.

1960 - Lanford Brothers Co., Inc. is founded by Jack and Stan Lanford.

1960's - Tom Watts is hired in 1966. Ed Nuckols, Jim Weeks and Casey Slater are each running a crew. First job with English Construction in Stanleytown, VA.

1970's - Steady growth working for English and building larger bridges for the J.F. Allen Co. in West VA. Bob Milliron, Lynn Kirby, Len Coontz, Paul Helsley, and Tom Reynolds are hired.

1980’s - Growth increases with new
managers Al Soltis, Pat McDaniel,
Margie Cundiff, Steve Lattimore, Ken Lanford, and Rodney Keffer. Superintendents Marshall Trainer, Alan Slater, and Guy Hartless are hired. We continue to do more bridge repair work and less new bridge and box culvert work.

1989 - Moved to new office and shop facility.

1990’s - Lanford Brothers Co. has over 175 employees and we are doing more maintenance repair work and less new construction each year. We are now doing multi-year bridge maintenance contracts for VDOT.

2000’s - At over 200 employees, Lanford Brothers Co. has 12 bridge crews, 6 milling crews, and a specialty division which includes shot blasting, grooving, and furnishing latex modified concrete.

2002 - Purchased Kirk-Neal, Inc., which added 20 experienced workers and the capability to do guardrail and sign work.

2009 - New LEED Certified "Green" office building and renovations completed.

2010 and Beyond - The future looks good.
