Community Testimonials ::
"Virginias Explore Park is fortunate to have a handful of supporters whose legacies will survive the passage of time. One such friend is Lanford Brothers Company and the Lanford family.
Stan Lanford joined Explore Parks non-profit River Foundation Board in 1991, later serving as its president for seven years until his retirement from that position in 2003. This same year, the staff watched from afar as Stan thoughtfully transitioned Ken into his role as president of Lanford Brothers. By then, Ken was already involved in the Park in his own capacity as a volunteer fundraiser. Both men have an easy presence and a generous spirit, and they are deeply committed to serving the community in which they live. Its no surprise that these same personal attributes are reflected in the Lanford Brothers staff, such as Tom, Junior, Mole, Thomas, and Peggy, to name a few.
Certainly, Lanford Brothers has been charitable to Explore Park, but theyve been so much more than that. Whenever we have a construction dilemmalike the need for a small bridge, or extra sets of hands or heavy equipment during a difficult stage of a construction projectwe can count on Lanford Brothers to quickly become part of our team. And when the going gets tough, as it sometimes does for young non-profits with an aggressive plan, Stan and Ken have always been there to offer a steadying hand.
In short, to us Lanford Brothers and its employees encapsulate what is right and good about mankind and our country. Working with them through the years has been an honor as well as a pleasure."

This historical interpretive park is a great asset to the Roanoke Valley, and we are proud to be a part of its success. Learn more at: www.explorepark.org
Partners in Education
Several years ago, Al Soltis, our vice president of the milling division, helped organize the Partners in Education chapter in Roanoke. He and Mike Loveman, our HR manager have continued to visit high schools around the Valley giving presentations to students about the many career opportunities available in the highway construction industry. LBC recognizes the importance of providing students who have decided to move directly into the job market instead of a college track, the opportunity for jobs. Learn more at: www.napehq.org
Roanoke City Greenway Program
The Greenway Project is an example of how we work with our Partners in Education through local schools. We formed a partnership with Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Botetourt County and Salem City Schools to achieve three goals. More about the Greenway Program
Work Zone Safety Education
This is another outreach program for high school students that we strongly support. This helps beginning drivers better understand the life and death consequences of not obeying work zone traffic controls. It is an outstanding program and we have received many positive comments about it. Al Soltis and Mike Loveman have been very active in this program as well. Learn more at: wzsafety.tamu.edu

Jack and Stan Lanford established this scholarship in 1999 through the American Road and Transportation Builders Associations Transportation Development Foundation. ARTBA
The award-winning American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) is the U.S. transportation construction industry's representative in Washington, D.C. Its mission: advocating strong federal investment in the nation's transportation infrastructure to meet public demand for a safe and efficient business transportation network. Lanford Brothers has been a member of this organization since 1975. Both Stan and Jack Lanford have held leadership positions in this organization, including Chairman (Jack in 1991 and Stan in 1999). Pete Ruane, President and CEO of ARTBA, has said, I cant think of another family that has given as much back to the industry at the national level as the Lanfords have in terms of volunteer time and leadership. ARTBA is our industrys voice to Congress, keeping our representatives informed of the issues and problems we need addressed to maintain our transportation systems. Learn more at: www.artba.org
VTCA
Lanford Brothers has been active in Virginia Road & Transportation Builders Association (VRTBA) since the 1970’s. The organization has now combined with the Aggregates Association to become the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA). Many officers at LBC have held leadership positions in this organization as we believe that those making a living in this industry need to help educate and inform others about the needs in our industry. The goals of the VTCA are as follows. They promote public and legislative awareness of the advantages of a beneficial transportation system. They work to protect and enhance transportation revenues for construction and maintenance of transportation facilities and apprise lawmakers with factual data so that legislation can be most accurately considered. They promote open communication and cooperation between the industry and the Virginia Department of Transportation and promote building by competitive contract, bringing the public better transportation facilities at lower costs. VTCA promotes equal opportunities for all qualified persons or companies desiring to compete in the industry, and they assist the American Road and Transportation Builders Association to ensure continued federal support for a progressive national transportation system. Lastly, they provide pertinent information, educational opportunities and training to member firms and strive to maximize association membership among firms participating in Virginia’s transportation program. Learn more about them at: www.vtca.org.
