Concrete Slab Milling

Surry, VA

The project required flattening a 210' x 82' concrete slab that had a 3" crown built in the middle.  It was extremely important that the finished product be as flat as possible.  Lanford Brothers milled using a stringline grade control that allowed us to get as close to a true grade as the machine control system would allow.  The slab was milled using our new Wirtgen 2000 with a Moba grade control and a 8mm fine textured drum to produce a smooth finish.  According to Bob Pavlik, Corporate Civil Engineer with Dominion Power- owner of the project, they achieved better results than expected.  He said, "Instead of the 1/4" in 10 feet, it appeared we achieved a finish tolerance of 1/4" in 210 feet!"  John Liles, President of the prime contractor, North Star Construction, told us, "Your willingness to try out the stringline technology on such a challenging project, coupled with your crew's attention to detail and desire to be better than they had to be, really made the project a success."  On this project, Lanford personnel took milling to a higher degree.
